The Institute for Learning Practitioners Australia put on a great Conference and Expo last Friday at the Gold Coast and I was honored to be asked to fill in for the opening Keynote on "Good Intentions are not Enough".

It was a fun fast and furious 90 minutes session and everyone wanted a copy of the different material used to help them with their training course and professional development.

Reading books on Innovation and creativity can get you only so far. The best way to develop your skills in thinking is to attend short courses, seminars, workshops, conferences or watch online videos such as those in the BuzzAcademy http://www.mindwerx.com/academy

"Research* shows that using memory training to challenge the minds of young learners has a direct impact on attainment and concentration at school, and that working Memory is a more powerful predictor of academic success than IQ. Training the Memory also leads to an increase in problem-solving ability - or fluid intelligence, as it is sometimes known – and the gain in intelligence is proportionate to the amount of training. So, the more training, the greater the improvement in ability.

From midway through 2008 and early 2009 we started talking about the GFC and whether or not it would be the disaster so many commentators were predicting. 

Our view was that while for some it would hit hard, the majority would be okay, and those that didn’t shy away from doing business and even looked to do more, would excel.  And that is what has happened.

The final open programs on Mind Mapping and Range & Rapid Reading are coming up shortly in Brisbane 27/10, Sydney 5/11 and Melbourne 6/11.  Each is a half-day – Mind Mapping in the morning with Speed Reading in the afternoon, and they can be taken individually or as a pair which we recommend.

After being introduced to Mind Maps about 5 years ago by a lecturer at the University I was working at, I started thinking about them and how we could use them with our students. The reception from other academics was low and not something they wanted to think about, nor work into their programme at that time. It stayed in the back of my mind though.

While on a student recruitment visit in Malaysia, I was in a book store (it's an addiction!) and saw "The Ultimate Mind Mapping Book" and my passion grew from there.

What? not the type to make resolutions because you will only break them?

That is a bit sad if you have because it indicates that you may have given up on yourself and your ability to learn.
