What is learning?? It is more than being shown some fact or figure, it is about understanding and remembering not only the information but how it relates to the learner. The following article explains that "Training the Memory  leads to an increase in problem-solving ability - or fluid intelligence" and how a group of people are helping kids in schools.

"Research* shows that using memory training to challenge the minds of young learners has a direct impact on attainment and concentration at school, and that working Memory is a more powerful predictor of academic success than IQ. Training the Memory also leads to an increase in problem-solving ability - or fluid intelligence, as it is sometimes known – and the gain in intelligence is proportionate to the amount of training. So, the more training, the greater the improvement in ability.

I ran a workshop last week that touched on some of the de Bono thinking principles and tools I have been successfully using and sharing with others for almost 25 years now.  As I always strive for, the feedback from participants was great, except for one person.  I don’t usually worry about the rare individual feedback that isn’t aligned with the majority (although I always ask myself if they have spotted something valuable for me to learn) – after all my style doesn’t always suit everyone.  But on this occasion I was surprised that the lower rating wasn’t so much about me, b

I was watching another TED Talk the other day title ‘Do schools kill creativity?’ with Sir Ken Robinson, in which he makes an entertaining and moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

Edward de Bono has just been announced as a keynote speaker at the Queensland Studies Authority (http://www.qsa.qld.edu.au/) 2010 conference on the Australian curriculum P-12. - 28–30 April 2010  Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

"The conference will explore key issues, opportunities and challenges the new Australian curriculum will bring for schools — the number one topic on school agendas around the country."

I am interested to know as the 15th Annual International Creativity Conference in Africa (ACRE) is currently underway| 6 – 9 OCTOBER 2009 | at Klein Kariba Resort north of Johannesburg.

as well as the 4th Annual International Creativity Conference for Educators was held 4-6 October - demonstrating the need for creativity in education.
